Yunjie Liu (Professor, Academician of CAE, Chief Scientist of Networking)

Brief Biography

Professor Liu Yunjie was born in Yantai, Shandong province in January, 1943. He graduated from the Department of Technical Physics of Peking University in 1968. He was the director of the Institute of data, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, director of the Institute of data communication and the deputy director of the Directorate-General of Telecommunications, MPT. Meanwhile, he was the chief engineer and vice president of China Unicom. Currently, He is the chief scientist and Ph.D. advisor of Internet in ICT, CAS, director of Science and Technology Committee of China Unicom, dean of School of Information and Communication Engineering, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He was selected as Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in November, 2005. When he was the director of the Institute of data communication, MPT, he was responsible for organizing and establishing a nationwide and advanced data communication network, which has become an important infrastructure of Chinese information development. He led the design, construction and management of public data network, computer Internet, high-speed broadband network, which laid an important foundation for Chinese information development. He presided over the design, construction and management of a unified multi-service network platform of China Unicom, which provided a viable solution for the integration of telecommunications networks, cable tv networks and Internet. Moreover, it was a successful large scale practice for the next generation of network evolution. He won the first prize for State Scientific and Technological Advancement, and ministerial lever State Scientific and Technological Advancement twice. He has received 2 state level invention patents. In all, he has published 59 academic papers and 7 monographs. Studied about network technology for more than 30 years, Professor Liu made pioneering works in data network, Internet and network integration, etc. He has rigorous scholarship and pays attention to train talents.
